My name is Steve Bell and www.oscartropicalfish.co.uk is my Oscar website.I have kept fish since I was a lad and have bred many species . In the early nineties I started my Oscar collection. with four small Oscars. Very soon that grew to 4 large Oscars 4 smaller red tigers and 4 small albinos. I then built my Oscar wall which was 13 feet wide and 8 feet high and set up a fish room and my collection of Oscars grew even further until I had around 10 breeding pairs. I kept all sorts of Oscars wild, reds, red tigers, albinos and long finned . In 1994 I had an article about my Oscar wall in the fish keeping magazine "Practical fishkeeping". My set up was featured on the front page of the magazine and I began to get lots of phone calls and was able to answer lots of questions. After having so many people phone me with there Oscar problems I thought about writing a book about Oscars, but because there were already several books I decided that I would make a video. I borrowed my mates camera whenever I could and filmed the Oscars. My friend also let me use his editing equipment and I was able to add narration. When it was finished I was able to transfer it onto video and sold copies to many of the people that were phoning me . The quality of the video wasn't brilliant so with the money that I got back for the videos I bought myself a better camera with a macro lens so that I could film some better quality shots. By then I was working from home operating my wedding car company so I was able to set the camera up whenever the fish were about to spawn . Over three years I was able to film the Oscars and their fry and have caught some great moments. The phone calls for information on Oscars increased and so I started up the national Oscar club. I went on to run the national Oscar club for two years. I also built a fish room and was breeding Discus, Angels, siamese fighters and dwarf cichlids. I had collected a lot of footage from the siamese fighters spawning and decided to make a film about them too. I made the film and then it was put away in my loft. Sadly the pressure of work combined with the birth of my son Damon in 1997 meant I had to give up my fish temporarily. In 2003 I began to build up my collection again and once again started to film the siamese fighters after finding my original tape. I made a 46 minute film which I put onto dvd, at the same time I found my old copy of the Oscar video and had that transferred onto dvd as well , both of which I began to sell on ebay. I then began the mammoth task of sifting threw the 200 hours of video footage I had from my Oscars so that I could make a new film . I had lots more footage and aimed to make two dvds one on keeping and looking after Oscars and the other one on breeding. I was now a single dad looking after two kids and running a limo business . I used the spare time that I had to load the footage onto my computer, edit it and narrate the information. Finally after around 18 months I had the finished dvds, one around 50 minutes, the keeping Oscars dvd and the other the breeding Oscar one, which is 57 minutes long. These are the two dvds you see for sale on my web site. Both dvds are rendered to region zero so they will play anywhere in the world. I have already sold them in the States,, Australia, Canada,South Africa, Turkey , France, Ger,many, Greece and Faroe islands. . Soon there will be a lot more info on oscars on the website I am currently working on around 50 pages of information on every aspect of Oscars. I am somewhat busy at the moment as well as looking after my two sons Irun the limo and wedding business, www.carriagesandcars.co.uk I have also just started work during school time at my eldest sons school as a behaviuor assistant and am a parent govenor at both schools.I have also started work on a fifth dvd about breeding gouramis , so you can see I am extremely busy.
